About Black Firesleeve
Black Firesleeve
The Aerospace Grade Firesleeve is fabricated from a bulk braided fiberglass yarn substrate with thick liquid silicone rubber coating. Coating process of silicone rubber on fiberglass sleeve makes this firesleeve flexible, expandable for connectors covering.
Properties:
Firesleeve is made from braid high bulk glass fiber sleeve and coated flexibility Silicone Rubber can withstand repeated exposures to molten steel, molten aluminum and molten glass up to 3000 degree F (1650 degree C).
The aerospace grade coating of our proprietary iron oxide red silicone rubber compound sheds molten metal splash immediately, so very little heat transfer occurs.
When exposed to flames, the silicone rubber transforms into a crust, creating a protective SiO2 refractory layer.
Excellent modulus of elasticity makes it an ideal choice for bundling hoses, tubes and cables in a variety of hostile environments.
Applications:
The typical applications include protecting hoses and cables in steel mills, aluminum smelting plants, offshore drilling rigs, foundries and glass manufacturing facilities.
The silicone coated fiberglass fire sleeve features an excellent modulus of elasticity, allowing it to easily stretch an expand over fittings and connectors. The outer cover offers excellent resistance to most industrial chemicals and hydraulic oils. Additional uses include the bundling of multiple hoses and cables together, while providing good abrasion resistance.
In applications where operators and maintenance personnel are working in the vicinity of steam lines or hot oil lines, there is always the danger of employees incurring serious burns from the branding effect of hot braided hoses. The silicone rubber coated sleeve provides effective burn protection from steam lines while insulating against costly energy losses. Applications include rubber vulcanization operations, platen presses, infection molding plants-anywhere hot steam or oil lines are used.
Superior Thermal and Flame ResistanceEngineered to withstand extreme temperatures, the Black Firesleeve protects hoses and cables continuously from -50C to +260C and can resist exposure up to 1650C in short bursts. Its fiberglass core with black silicone coating ensures reliability in severe fire hazards, passing vertical flame tests with ease.
Rugged Design for Industrial ApplicationsWith high tensile strength and a smooth silicone finish, this firesleeve is both tough and flexible. Its low water absorption and excellent resistance to hydraulic fluids, fuels, oils, and UV rays make it suitable for automotive, industrial, and powerplant environments, where safety and durability are paramount.
FAQ's of Black Firesleeve:
Q: How is the Black Firesleeve installed on cables and hoses?
A: The Black Firesleeve can be easily slid over cables or hoses before end connectors are attached. For post-assembly applications or tight spaces, a slit-sleeve configuration may be offered. Secure both ends with hose clamps or high-temperature ties to ensure optimal protection.
Q: What applications are best suited for the Black Firesleeve?
A: This firesleeve excels in automotive, industrial machinery, and power plant settings where cables and hoses are exposed to high heat, flames, or harsh chemicals. It is ideal for protecting wiring looms, hydraulic hoses, and fuel lines in environments prone to fire and abrasion.
Q: When should I consider using a heat protective sleeve like this firesleeve?
A: Use a firesleeve when cables or hoses are routed close to hot engine components, exhaust pipes, furnaces, or anywhere high-temperature exposure or fire risk is a concern. It is also recommended in areas where chemical spills or UV exposure may damage unprotected wiring or hoses.
Q: Where is the Black Firesleeve commonly used in industry?
A: The sleeve is widely applied in automotive assembly, heavy manufacturing, steel plants, power generation facilities, shipyards, and other sectors where thermal and chemical threats to cable or hose assemblies exist. Its flexibility and robust protection help reduce maintenance and downtime.
Q: What are the key benefits of using the Black Firesleeve?
A: Key benefits include flame resistance, high tensile strength, exceptional oil and chemical resistance, and low water absorption. It protects critical lines from heat damage, reduces fire risk, and extends the service life of components. UV and abrasion resistance ensure longevity, even in outdoor or exposed settings.
Q: How does the firesleeve maintain performance under extreme conditions?
A: The firesleeve's fiberglass core and black silicone rubber coating deliver a high melting point (above 1650C), very low thermal conductivity, and flexibility across a wide temperature range. It remains effective and odorless under severe stresses without degrading or absorbing moisture.
Q: Is this firesleeve customizable to suit different installation needs?
A: Yes, the Black Firesleeve is available in standard sizes and can be customized for length (up to 20 meters per roll), width (up to 100mm or on request), and thickness (commonly 1mm to 3mm). This ensures a suitable fit for various cable and hose diameters.
